Since I began teaching first grade 5 years ago, I have always used the web version of Spelling City to host my weekly spelling lists. There are premium memberships available but the free option provides a variety of tools for students to practice their weekly spelling/vocabulary lists.
To find out an in depth explanation and overview of this app for the iPad, check out Richard Byrne's post about this app.
On each of the five iPads in my classroom, I have signed in with my teacher account. If you pay for premium memberships you can have student accounts. Since I have the free account, I sign in with my teacher account and students can access their weekly spelling list and all the games that go with practicing their words.
If you do not currently use Spelling City, I would highly recommend it. If you don't have iPads, the web version is tremendous for allowing students to practice their words in a fun and interactive way. Having the app available is just the icing on the cake.
